MORE ABOUT BRYAN

Rev. Bryan S. Breault

Pastor

We are delighted that Reverend Bryan S. Breault accepted our call and began serving as our settled pastor on August 2, 2021.  He has been involved in outdoor ministry for most of his career:  directing a retreat center in NY and Outdoor Ministry for Maine UCC.   Many of us know Bryan from his work at Pilgrim Lodge, our UCC camp in West Gardiner, Maine.  Bryan is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community.

Celia Wilson

Office Administrator

Celia Wilson is our Office Administrator. She is a native Mainer and long-time Portland resident, who is delighted to spend her work days in a beautiful, historic church helping congregants and the larger community. She is happy to answer any questions you may have about the church or services, or the building itself and its past as a core part of Portland's history. She is also the point of contact for rentals of the building, whether that may be a wedding or poetry reading, memorial service or support group.

Rev. Meg Williams & John Williams

Interim Music Directors

The Rev. Meg Boxwell Williams, a native of Connecticut, is a graduate of Boston University and the Yale Divinity School and Institute of Sacred Music. Meg has served churches on either the organ bench or in the pulpit since she was in high school.

Having vacationed for 40 years in the Lakes Region, she and her husband John relocated to Maine after retirement.  in addition to her work at State Street Church, Meg provides pastoral leadership once a month at Faith Lutheran Church in Windham.

A native of North Carolina, John Williams served as musician in churches there and in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut. He holds a BM in Church Music from Westminster Choir College, an MAR from Yale Divinity School Institute of Sacred Music, and the AGO Choirmaster certificate. After a stint in the editorial offices for a hymnal revision, he worked for many years in publishing and sang in the choirs his wife, Meg, directed.

After eight and a half years as Organist-Director at Christ Church Bethany, CT, John retired to Maine and, as of January 2024, began sharing with Meg the position of Interim Music Director for State Street Church in Portland.

In memory Dr. David Maxwell

With his beloved wife Sue by his side, David Maxwell, our minister of music for over 43 years, peacefully passed from this world into the loving embrace of the one who created, and sustained him throughout his life.

A remarkable musician and composer, David led our choir and moved generations of church goers with the Roosevelt organ and grand piano.  An integral part of the State Street Church community, he has truly been our minister of music.  He is already greatly missed.
